Nice to meet you!  你好!

Hey there,
I’m Eileen

I am a product designer who creates experiences that balance crafts with deep strategic thinking. I enjoy learning about the “why”, and breaking down ambiguous problems into simple solutions to empower more.

Currently based in Philadelphia, I will be graduating this May with a Master of Integrated Product Design @ UPenn, where I have immersed in startup culture and learn the collaborative approach of creating products with the lens of design, engineering and business.

When I’m not doing design, I try to live a balance life through:
→ Hiking (sometime go on adventure) and trying different sports
→ Cooking something fusion (based on how I feel) or family dishes (when I miss home)
→ Standing in the streets’ corner just to capture key moments with my film camera

A few more things about me

Where I seek for design inspiration

Besides YouTube, reports, posts on LinkedIn and whatnot, my design inspiration comes from my daily observation of the “grass roots” design (aka. the everyday things in our life “designed” by ordinary people) from diverse culture background.

For example, it comes from the sidewalk fish pond in Brooklyn that brings so much curiosity and joy to local community. It also comes from local architecture that reflects local history and migration of people, even though some look a bit “out of the place”.

A mission-driven, community-centered project that explores AI as a powerful tool to overcome mental blockers in the creative process while leveraging creative arts to foster mental resilience and peer connection among youth. Learn more about this project or read full article.

I really had to pivot to deal with my obsession with design

Before starting my creative journey as my profession, I was a public health researcher and earned my MPH from Columbia University. My obsession with design became impossible to ignore, and my strong wish to live like an anthropologist who gets to talk to different people, I pivoted. It was, without a doubt, the best decision I’ve ever made (no joke). Here are some transferable skills I bring into my design process:

System thinking
Colloboration with diverse stakeholders
Empathy and trust-building

My creative exploration beyond design

Just as I love crafting delightful experiences through design, I find joy in capturing meaningful moments with film photography. I share them with the community as their sources of visual inspiration to fuel creativity and bring visions to life.
